Kuraray Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hitoshi Kawahara) will have two exhibition booths at ISPO Munich 2023, an international sporting goods trade show to be held in Munich, Germany from November 28 to 30.
The Innovation Networking Center (INC), a cross-divisional organization aimed at connecting in-house and external resources to spur innovation, will introduce diverse Kuraray Group materials that contribute to sustainability and spur innovation in sporting goods. The Clarino Division will introduce products developed based on recycled raw materials in addition to showcasing a wealth of use cases and applications in the sports and outdoor field featuring the man-made leather CLARINO™.

1.Exhibition Products

・The Innovation Networking Center (INC) Booth (A1.241)

Cellulose acetate fiber (under development) A solvent-free marine biodegradable acetate fiber created utilizing our proprietary melt-spinning method. GHG emissions during manufacturing are low compared to typical methods employing organic solvents, helping reduce environmental impact.
Phenoxy nonwoven (under development) These phenoxy meltblown nonwoven fabric sheets reduce voids and increase surface smoothness by forming layers on the surface of prepreg CFRP surfaces. They help reduce the processing needed before coating such products as golf shafts and automotive frames.
Syndiotactic polystyrene (SPS) fiber A fiber that has an excellent texture when dry and dries approximately 1.8 times more quickly than polyester according to internal tests. Thanks to the elimination of the requirement for an additional water-repellent treatment in its manufacture, negative effects on the environment of the processing agent used are low.
Shock-absorbing fiber A fiber that has 1.4 times more shock absorbency than polyester according to internal tests. It is garnering attention as material for sports shoes.
Mesh films made using thermoplastic elastomers Thermoplastic elastomers with vibration dampening properties. Combining them with carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) can be expected to have such positive effects as vibration control and texture adjustment.
GENESTAR™ heat-resistant polyamide resin A proprietary heat-resistant polyamide resin developed by Kuraray. Among its characteristics are low water absorbency, high heat resistance, and high chemical resistance, and can be used to enhance the functionality of carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP).
VECTRAN™ liquid crystal polymer fiber A high-strength fiber that counts low moisture absorbency and dimensional stability among its characteristics. It can be used in ripstop fabric,* which requires durability, and can be colored through spin-dyeing.
MAGIC TAPE™ hook-and-loop fastener
Molded mesh type
A hook-and-loop fastener with a mesh base fabric. It is lightweight and has excellent air permeability. It can be used on shoes and daily use products and accommodates advanced designs.
MAGIC TAPE™ hook-and-loop fastener
Recycled type
A hook-and-loop fastener made of 100% polyester that includes recycled raw material. No back coating agent is used, allowing for material recycling. It has acquired RCS certification.
KURALON K-II™
PVA fiber
A PVA fiber created using Kuraray’s proprietary wet cooled-gel spinning method. It can be used to create fabrics designed to dissolve at temperatures ranging from low to the boiling point of water.

*Ripstop fabric: A fabric with a reinforced lattice structure that is highly resilient to rupturing

・The Clarino Division Booth (C1.407)

CLARINO™ is man-made leather that has an appearance and texture similar to natural leather. We will exhibit products developed using recycled raw materials in order to shine a light on their sustainability while presenting a wealth of use cases and applications in the sports and outdoor field.
