Kuraray Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hitoshi Kawahara; hereinafter “Kuraray” or the “Company”) has been implementing a variety of countermeasures to address the spread of the novel coronavirus. As the government declaration of a state of emergency has been lifted in some prefectures, our policy going forward is as follows.
The Kuraray Group Risk Management Policy states that health and safety shall take precedence over business continuity or recovery. Based on this policy, the Kuraray Group is taking such actions as announcing security threat levels for each region and administering the approval/denial of employee applications for business travel in line with guidelines issued by the national as well as prefectural governments in addition to the Company’s own crisis management standards.
We will enforce the following measures for the time being. The length of the period of enforcement will be flexibly reviewed in light of changes in circumstances.
(1) Business travel overseas is prohibited.
(2) Business travel in Japan is restricted (travel between domestic bases of operation is prohibited in principle).
・Meetings between domestic bases of operations should be conducted via teleconferencing systems, etc. In principle, business travel from the Head Office (Tokyo) and Osaka Office to production sites and from production sites to the Head Office and Osaka Office is prohibited.
・In principle, business travel from or to bases of operation located in regions subject to the declaration of state of emergency is prohibited.
・Employees based in prefectures where the state of emergency has been lifted are now allowed to engage in business travel to destinations located in regions not subject to an ongoing declaration of a state of emergency. However, such employees are still prohibited from engaging in non-essential or non-urgent business travel (this condition is newly added to the previously announced measures).
(3) Employees are asked to voluntarily refrain from hosting and participating in in-person events.
・In principle, employees in Tokyo and Osaka are not to host or participate in in-person events.
・In principle, employees are prohibited from attending social gatherings, such as meetings that involve dining, in regions subject to the declaration of state of emergency.
(4) The use of flexible-commuting and telecommuting programs is recommended (Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya).
・Bases of operation located in regions subject to the declaration of state of emergency are asked to ensure that the portion of employees on site at the same time is 30% or lower.
We will continue to place the health and safety of Group employees, their families and all stakeholders first while renewing our commitment to the Kuraray Group’s corporate philosophy of “providing value to society” and striving to minimize any impact on our customers and business partners.
