Kuraray Co., Ltd. (President: Masaaki Ito; Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; "Kuraray"), having completed the acquisition of Calgon Carbon Corporation (CEO: Randall S. Dearth; Location: Pennsylvania, U.S.A.; "Calgon Carbon"), the world's largest activated carbon manufacturer, on March 9, 2018 (U.S. time), held an opening ceremony for the new, post-acquisition Calgon Carbon near Calgon Carbon's head office.
The opening ceremony was attended by executives from the Kuraray Group, including Calgon Carbon's President Dearth, Kuraray's President Ito, and Functional Materials Company President Sano. It took place at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, near Calgon Carbon's head office, on June 7, 2018 (U.S. time).
At the ceremony, attendees expressed their high expectations for the carbon materials business. President Dearth remarked, "We are proud to join you as part of the Kuraray team!" President Ito commented, "I can say that through the collaboration of our two companies, we can truly become the number one global activated carbon company" and Functional Materials Company President Sano said, "We aim to grow our carbon materials business as one of Kuraray's future core businesses."
Kuraray is working to integrate its carbon materials business with Calgon Carbon's businesses to quickly realize synergies in addition to accelerating the reinforcement of the carbon materials business with the aim of making it a future core business.
