The safety level was improved primarily through efforts with originality and ingenuity at worksites and efforts to address unexpected events, education for improving risk sensitivity, and enhancing other various training programs. Also, a labor accident evaluation system standardized at home and abroad entered full operation, and this pushed forward with the constructing of a base for globalization of safety activity management.

In Japan, measures to reduce CO2 emissions by about 9,600 tons-CO2 were implemented. As a result, the Environmental Efficiency of GHG emissions of the Kuraray Group in Japan improved compared with fiscal 2010. However, this performance is behind the target of fiscal 2017 envisioned in the Medium-Term Plan. On the other hand, environmental efficiency of the Overseas affiliates as to energy consumption decreased.

Water sources in region Although we have not set a concrete target in Japan, we strove to make effective use. Overseas water consumption increased with the increase in production volume.

Emission into atmosphere Emissions of PRTR substances in Japan were higher than the previous year's results, but the environmental efficiency improved compared with fiscal 2010. Overseas production sites observed compliance of each regulation on chemical substance emission.

Since fiscal 2007, Kuraray Group in Japan has been maintaining “an effective utilization rate of waste of 90% or higher, and final landfill disposal rate of 1% or lower.” The amount of waste generated by the Kuraray Group in Japan was lower than the previous fiscal year’s results, while the environmental efficiency improved compared with fiscal 2010.
Environmental Accounting - Overall Investments for environmental conservation purposes totaled ¥752 million (¥382 million for the previous year), while environmental conservation expenses totaled ¥2,399 million (¥2,359 million for the previous year).

Workplaces Personnel policy allowing employees to feel work is worth accomplishing Providing growth opportunities to employees Training and education As part of fostering human resources who can actively take part in conducting business internationally, group training was provided for the personnel in the classes of department general managers and section managers. Short-term training and other training programs were undertaken for staff-level personnel, participated by about 50 persons from the Kuraray Group inside and outside of Japan.

Diversity and equal opportunity Employment We held workshops for personnel of the general manager class and seminars for personnel of the semi-managerial class to promote a corporate culture and raise career awareness. We also introduced no-overtime weeks, and administered homeworking and flextime systems on a trial basis.
Healthy Management of Mind and Body Continuation and beefing up of mental support measures and countermeasures for lifestyle-related diseases Occupational safety and health 100% participation in line care seminars by management and supervisory personnel (head office: personnel in managerial position; Plant: general manager or higher) was achieved.
