Kuraray to Expand Its PVB Film Manufacturing Facilities in Europe
Aiming for Full-Fledged Entry into the Automobile Industry

March 9, 2012
Kuraray Co., Ltd.

Kuraray Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Fumio Ito) announces that it has made a decision to expand the polyvinyl butyral (PVB) film manufacturing facilities located in Troisdorf, Germany, operated by wholly owned subsidiary Kuraray Europe GmbH (KEG; Headquarters: Frankfurt, Germany). PVB film is used for interlayer films in laminated safety glasses for automotive and construction applications. Through this facility enhancement, Kuraray aims to meet robustly growing global PVB film demand. In addition, Kuraray has initiated a feasibility study looking into the establishment of new PVB film facilities in India, in anticipation for rapid demand expansion in Asia.

Background Leading to the Decision to Expand the Facility

Demand for PVB film is growing on a global scale, with expansion particularly noteworthy in automotive application-related demand in emerging countries. To strategically meet this accelerating demand as well as to maintain a stable supply structure, Kuraray has concluded that its PVB film production capacity must be strengthened.
