Kuraray Co., Ltd.
As part of its social contribution activities, Kuraray Co., Ltd. is holding an exhibition of artwork by students from the Arts and Crafts Course of the University of Tsukuba's Special Needs Education High School for the Deaf (Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture campus) from Tuesday, January 13 to Friday, January 23 at Kuraray's Tokyo headquarters (1-1-3 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo).
Equivalent to a junior college, the University of Tsukuba's Special Needs Education School for the Deaf is a government-run school for the hearing impaired that is unique in Japan. The school specializes in bringing together hearing-impaired individuals from across Japan who have graduated from high school and completed advanced courses at special needs schools for the deaf so that they can acquire specialized knowledge.
In increasing opportunities to showcase their activities to the outside world, the University of Tsukuba's Special Needs Education School for the Deaf and Kuraray had a meeting of minds; the former explores ways to create points of contact that allow students to venture out into society, and the latter seeks opportunities to undertake social contribution activities throughout the Tokyo metropolitan area. Consequently, Kuraray has been displaying students' creations and providing these students with company tours of its Tokyo headquarters since 1999.
To support student employment search activities, company tours include lectures on how a corporation works, a tour of the Kuraray offices and opportunities to chat with employees, allowing students to experience the atmosphere of a real workplace. This year's company tour is scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday, January 15.
This year's art exhibition and the company tour held at Kuraray Tokyo headquarters will be continued beyond 2010 and is scheduled to be further developed in conjunction with the Company's long-term social contribution activities.
