Kuraray Co., Ltd. has announced that the price of PMMA (methacrylic resin) molding material, will rise by ¥25 per kilogram in Japan for shipments commencing August 1, 2006.

Flourishing demand in Japan and the rest of Asia for PMMA molding material, particularly as an optical material used to make light guides for LCDs and as a material for auto parts, has kept the supply-and-demand balance tight in Japan and the rest of Asia.

Furthermore, reflecting the dramatic increase in crude oil prices, crude oil prices continue to climb. Given these conditions, operating revenues from PMMA molding material have deteriorated rapidly.

In view of these circumstances, and in an effort to maintain the stability of supply and avoid financial losses, Kuraray has implemented the price revisions set out below.

1. Scope of revisions
Domestic shipments of PMMA molding material
2. Price increase (in Japan)
¥25 per kilogram
3. Effective date
Shipments from August 1, 2006
