Kuraray to Launch New MAGIC TAPE with Adhesive Strength to Withstand Temperatures up to 80 ℃
Integrated with Powerful Adhesive for Polypropylene Materials

Kuraray Fastening Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka; President: Mitsuhiko Takaoka), manufacturer of MAGIC TAPE and extrusion molded hook fastener, has developed MAGIC TAPE P-300 (provisional name) with the support of diversified chemical manufacturer Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo; President: Naotake Okubo). MAGIC TAPE P-300 combines polypropylene materials with a powerful adhesive capable of withstanding temperatures up to 80℃. The full-scale launch of the product is scheduled for February 6, 2006.

Due to their lightweight and eco-friendly characteristics, as well as their ability to undergo thermoforming more than once, polypropylene films, sheets and mold products have in recent years seen rapidly increasing demand as alternatives to resins made from polyvinyl chloride, acrylic and nylon. "Plastic cardboard" returnable boxes made from polypropylene are also quickly rising in popularity to replace conventional paper-based cardboard, in consideration of environmental issues and as a way to reduce distribution costs.

Previously, decreased adhesive strength resulting from exposure to humidity, high temperatures and ongoing repelling forces had been an issue for conventional MAGIC TAPE products with adhesive when affixed to polypropylene products. The powerfully adhesive MAGIC TAPE P-300 has conquered this issue. Easily attachable, the new product maintains its adhesive strength even at temperatures up to 80℃ and under humid conditions, exhibiting virtually no peeling.

Leveraging this feature, Kuraray Fastening will market the product for application in diverse fields, including as a sealant for polypropylene plastic cardboard, and for affixing of automobile interior materials and wall materials in the housing and building renovation industry.

Newly developed MAGIC TAPE P-300 integrates Kuraray Fastening's MAGIC TAPE with a unique acrylic-based adhesive developed by Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd. that exhibits retentive strength to polyolefin resins such as polypropylene and polyethylene. This unique acrylic-based adhesive has a high degree of bonding strength in comparison with conventional rubber-based adhesives, and maintains its strength for long periods even at temperatures up to 80℃ or down to 0℃.

MAGIC TAPE P-300 is an eco-friendly product that uses no substances indicated by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare as harmful to humans.
