Retaining Straps for Home Appliances
Kuraray Fastening Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka; President: Mitsuhiko Takaoka), which manufactures and sells MAGIC TAPE hook and loop fasteners, has announced the development of a new addition to its line of fall control molded plastic hook fasteners for restraint of furniture and home electronics during earthquakes. Demand for flat-panel liquid crystal televisions is growing, and Kuraray Fastening has responded to that need with the development of a line of strong plastic earthquake fasteners using its extrusion molded hook fastener technology. The fall control molded plastic hook fastener line was introduced in 1995, and Kuraray Fastening has now presented an entirely new lineup of strong, easy-to-use fasteners. The new retaining straps for flat-panel televisions will be available from the middle of October. The fasteners consist of a molded box and band, and will hold curved bases securely (see photograph).
Kuraray Fastening also took a new look at its series of products that restrain both horizontal and vertical movement, adding tight-gripping polyurethane gel pads to its non-slip mats for notebook PCs and keyboards, and switching from polyvinyl chloride to styrene elastomer (SEPTON, a Kuraray Co., Ltd. brand) to make these products more eco-friendly.
The new products in the fall control molded plastic hook fasteners series are:
- (1) retaining straps for home appliances,
- (2) earthquake fasteners for flat-panel liquid crystal TVs and PC monitors (base retaining type),
- (3) retaining straps for flat-panel liquid crystal TVs and PC monitors (gel type),
- (4) earthquake fasteners for printers and multifunction devices (base retaining type),
- (5) earthquake fasteners for printers and multifunction devices (gel type),
- (6) non-slip mats for notebook PCs and keyboards,
- (7) wall fasteners for furniture,
- (8) restraints for two-piece cabinets,
The package design is also new.
Fall control series fasteners extrusion molded hook fasteners with serrated hooks, and boast holding-power approximately four times that of ordinary MAGIC TAPE to hold important objects securely. These products offer the ease of use of a hook and loop fastener, and are removable.
These products have been tested at magnitudes equal to the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, and demonstrated their ability to withstand even that level of vibration.
